Howdy folks! Michael Sims here, CoFounder and President of Hook + Gaff. I hope everyone's summer is off to a great start! I'm not sure if your summer schedule is as packed as ours, but we are definitely looking forward to all the activities and trips we have planned with kids and friends. I just wanted to recap a few things we've already done just in a few short weeks.
First, it was so fun this spring to watch my son play his second year of tournament golf for River Bluff High School here in Lexington, SC. Their team was phenomenal and won their second straight state championship. Congrats to all the kids on the team!
I had a few tourneys of my own in May, starting off with the 11th USGA Four Ball Championship in Scottsdale at The Desert Mountain Club. We played great golf for the majority of the tournament and faltered coming down the stretch as we turned back into the wind on 14 the second day, ultimately barely missing match play. I was disappointed, but the trip was incredible. I also partnered with my buddy to make it to the semi-final round of our SCGA Four Ball, which is always a great tournament at a fantastic golf course.
Then, to kick off the summer, my wife and I planned a trip to Jackson Hole so that we could take the kids to Yellowstone and the Tetons. This was my kids' first trip out west, and they loved every second. They were blown away by the majesty of the landscape, and I think it was quite a treat to see all the wildlife. Unfortunately, we didn't get to set the hook on a native cutthroat. I did take my gear, but the snow melt is significant in late May/early June and the rivers were chocolate milk and running high. If I had planned a little better, I'd have taken the boys up to the Firehole River in Yellowstone a 2nd day, as that one runs clear and is not affected by the snow melt. Maybe next time!
