BECAUSE HOW WE SPEND OUR TIME MATTERS

MISSION MINUTE

For Hook & Gaff President and Co-Founder Michael SimsTime Well Spent often looks like a day—or even a weekend—on the golf course. Long before he was leading Hook & Gaff, Michael was competing on some of the biggest stages in college golf as part of Clemson University’s National Championship team. That experience shaped not only his appreciation for the sport but also his understanding of focus, patience, and presence. . . qualities that continue to guide our brand today.

At Hook & Gaff, that’s what Time Well Spent is all about—doing what you love, with the people you love, in the moments that matter most.

TIME FOR INSPIRATION

Because We ALL Can Be Inspired to Spend Our Time Intentionally

The Captain’s Putter Cup

For Hook & Gaff President and Co-Founder Michael Sims, there’s one event each year that perfectly captures the spirit of competition, camaraderie, and Time Well Spent - the Captain’s Putter Cup.

This long-standing tradition, now in its 80th year, brings together the top 12 amateurs and top 12 senior amateurs from the Carolinas to face off against their counterparts from Virginia and West Virginia. Modeled after the Ryder Cup, the event features best ball, alternate shot, and singles matches that test not just skill, but focus and heart.

Michael describes it as his favorite event of the year—a celebration of the game and the friendships that come from it. This year’s matches came down to the wire, with the Carolinas securing the win at Quixote, proving once again that grit, teamwork, and respect for the game never go out of style.

It’s a reminder that competition can be more than a pursuit of victory; it can be a gathering of great players, shared moments, and memories made on fairways that stretch far beyond the final scorecard. That’s Time Well Spent.

TIME FOR A CHALLENGE

Because Time Well Spent Starts With One Intentional Choice

Tee Up Your Time Well Spent

This week’s challenge is inspired by one of our favorite ways to unwind and reconnect—a round of golf. Whether you’re a scratch player or just learning to keep your drives out of the woods, golf has a way of slowing life down and bringing people together.

Your challenge:
Make time for a round (or even just booking a bay at Topgolf) with someone who matters to you. Leave the phone in the bag, soak up the scenery, and enjoy the walk between shots. Use the quiet moments to talk, laugh, or simply listen.

If you can’t get to the course, hit the range, putt in the backyard, or watch the sunset from your favorite spot . . .it’s all about being present.

Because in golf, as in life, it’s not just about the score; it’s about the company, the conversation, and the moments that make the game worth playing.

Tag us and share how you’re spending your Time Well Spent on or off the course.
